A tornado hit my town – Wethersfield, CT

by

A tornado hit my town of Wethersfield, CT during Friday afternoon rush hour on  June 26th, 2009.  It’s always been my fear, but never a reality. I was in Glastonbury stop and shop with my 9 year old son when it hit.  Loud thunder cracked above the roof, which then was inundated with hail.  Lighting blasted the ground and the rain and hail got bigger and faster.  Customers ran to the front of the store to look outside as the windspeed dramatically increased. I kept grabbing my son and backing up, aware of what can accompany hail.  The tornado was just a town away at the time…my town.  We lost power for 2 days.  Six houses were condemned.  Two houses about a mile away from my own were sliced in half by enoumous trees.  The National Weather Service confirmed the tornado, and a Federal Disaster team was brought in.  Four days later,  a severe thunderstorm included black skies and fast moving clouds.  The winds bursted out of nowhere as the rain slammed the ground and the trees swayed.  Not again.  I eyed the closets and tried to figure what room would be best in my one story ranch.  No room would be best.  I had no basement.  I only had fear that another tornado was consuming me as four-day-old thoughts of the first one reeked havok on my mind.  The tornado tally is still at one, but the other night I was a little gun shy.

LOL! See Glenn, it doesn’t matter WHERE you are. If it’s going to happen, it’s going to happen! And here it DID happen and you were just fine! No amount of worrying will make it go away. Just relax and trust God’s plan. You will be ok. And when your time DOES come, it will be ok then too. Enjoy the time you have. Don’t waste it worrying.
